Room I
Storm drains, reservoirs, tidal exchanges. Los Angeles is plumbed like a nervous system, and on one Friday in October it carries a chord sixty miles to the Pacific.
Layer 01

Layer 02
Telephone trunk lines laid in 1947 trace the same figure at a smaller scale. Nobody has ever explained why.
Layer 03
Nine miles of the 405 fall into phase every night at 3:40 a.m. Caltrans has a file. The file is one page.

Room II
Hand-carved, kintsugi-repaired, warm to the touch in a way that has nothing to do with the room. Commissioned thirty years ago on a Malibu beach — not as an instrument, as a prison.
Room III
A failing quarantine tank on Ventura. A record playing at three in the morning in Laurel Canyon. A cavern off the break where three sisters hear their mother at low volume.
“Nineteen years and the light has never once been off. I asked her about it. She said the light isn't for us.”
Room IV
Six cities. Six instruments. One frequency that has been trying to finish a sentence for two hundred years. Los Angeles is the first iteration.
